Screen Studio alternative: 3D mockups and videos, free
A Screen Studio alternative that runs in your browser: 3D device mockups and promo videos, free images, no signup, nothing uploaded, fair source.
Screen Studio is a macOS screen recorder that made "beautiful screen recordings" a category: automatic cursor zooms, smooth motion, backgrounds, a device frame around the capture. It is excellent at what it does, and what it does is record. OpenMock does not record your screen at all — it takes the recording you already have and puts it on a 3D device with a camera you control. The two are as often complementary as competitive, so this is a comparison about which job you are doing.
What Screen Studio does well
Screen Studio is a macOS application that records your screen, webcam and audio, then automatically produces polished videos with cursor zooms, motion and device frames.
- Recording and editing in one native Mac app
- Automatic zoom-to-cursor that makes UI walkthroughs watchable
- Webcam, audio and iOS device capture in the same project
Where OpenMock is different
OpenMock is a browser-based studio for putting screenshots and screen recordings on 3D devices and turning them into promo videos. The differences that matter for someone comparing it with Screen Studio:
- Different job. OpenMock starts after the recording exists. Record with QuickTime, iOS Screen Recording, OBS or Screen Studio itself, then bring the file in.
- True 3D devices. The recording plays on a physically modelled iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Watch or XDR that you can orbit, tilt, open and light — not a flat frame overlaid on the video.
- Cross-platform, in the browser. Windows and Linux users have no Screen Studio; they do have OpenMock.
- Local-only, no account. Nothing is uploaded; the code is fair source on GitHub.
- Cinematic finishing. HDRI environments, screen glow, depth of field, adaptive motion blur, transitions, text and logo shots, audio clips, MP4 up to 4K/60 fps.

When to stay with Screen Studio
If you make tutorials, walkthroughs and support videos — long recordings where the cursor is the story — Screen Studio's automatic zooms are the feature, and OpenMock does not replace them. Many teams record in Screen Studio and then drop the export onto a 3D device in OpenMock for the launch-day version.
When OpenMock is the better fit
- You want the recording on a 3D device with a real camera move, not a flat frame
- You are on Windows, Linux or ChromeOS
- You want a promo clip (15–30 s) rather than a walkthrough
- You want free still images from the same scene for your landing page
- Your footage is confidential and you want it to stay on the machine
Try it in two minutes
Open OpenMock, pick a device, drop in a screenshot or screen recording, move the camera, export. If the result isn't what you wanted, you have lost two minutes and no personal data.
FAQ
Is OpenMock a free Screen Studio alternative?
For images, completely: PNG, JPEG and WebP exports are free with no signup or watermark. Video exports are free at up to 720p/30 fps with a watermark; Pro ($5/month or $36/year) removes it and unlocks 4K and 60 fps.
Does OpenMock upload my screenshots or recordings?
No. Rendering, decoding and encoding all happen in your browser with WebGL and WebCodecs. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account to create.
Can OpenMock record my screen?
No. Use your OS recorder (QuickTime or iOS Screen Recording on Apple devices, Xbox Game Bar on Windows, OBS anywhere) and drop the MP4 or MOV into OpenMock. HEVC recordings from iPhone and Mac import directly.
Can I use a Screen Studio export in OpenMock?
Yes — export an MP4 from Screen Studio and place it on any OpenMock device. Auto-zooms in the recording combine well with a slow camera drift in OpenMock, as long as both moves are gentle.
